Sawyer Brown in Concert at DeJoria Center on High Star Ranch

Sawyer Brown Concert at DeJoria Center on High Star Ranch

High Star Ranch is pleased to present an evening with Sawyer Brown, a chart-topping country music band known for their hits “Step That Step,” “Thank God for You,” and “Some Girls Do.”

Founded in 1981 in Florida, Sawyer Brown emerged as a musical entity born from the ranks of Don King’s road band. The band consists of lead vocalist Mark Miller, pianist/keyboardist Gregg “Hobie” Hubbard, percussionist/drummer Joe Smyth, and lead guitarist Shayne Hill. Miller, Hubbard, and Smyth are among the original five founding members alongside Bobby Randall (lead guitar) and Jim Scholten (bass). Despite the minor shifts in their line-up over the years, the band’s passion for playing country music and entertaining audiences remains steadfast.

Sawyer Brown’s current tour will take them from coast to coast; their stop at High Star Ranch’s DeJoria Center brings them to Utah for what is sure to be a memorable night for fans of the band and of country music in general.

Sawyer Brown gained national recognition after they competed in—and won—the grand prize on the television show Star Search in 1983. Upon the band’s return to Nashville, Sawyer Brown signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in association with Curb Records, and they released their self-titled first album in 1985. The single “Step That Step” catapulted to the Number One spot on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and also became a number one hit in Canada.

Sawyer Brown returned to the studio to record more albums throughout the 1990s and, in doing so, they released more chart-topping hits, including “All These Years,” “The Boys and Me,” and “This Time,” just to name a few.

Across their expansive music career, Sawyer Brown has released 18 studio albums, one live album, and five compilation albums. Three of their albums—The Dirt Road, Outskirts of Town, and Greatest Hits—have been certified gold, while The Boys Are Back has been certified platinum. Of the band’s 60 singles, 51 have charted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, which is a remarkable achievement that underscores Sawyer Brown’s ability to resonate with country music fans across the span of several decades.

Sawyer Brown has received many awards and accolades, including a 1985 CMA Horizon Award from the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM). For six consecutive years—from 1993-1998—Sawyer Band was awarded Vocal Band of the Year by TNN/Music City News Country Music Awards, and, in 1996, they received the Vocal Group of the Year from ACM. Their music videos have also been lauded, winning Video Group of the Year in 1993, 1994, and 1995 at CMT Country Music Awards. These numerous honors further reflect Sawyer Brown’s significant contributions to the country music industry and their enduring influence.
